My instruments

Flute (traverse)

The first instrument I owned was a flute. I played this instrument from my 7th until now! It is a Blessing 102 . The quality is reasonable, but when I got better, I bought a silver joint to boost the tone.

Traverso (baroque)

In 2000 I started an early music ensemble with several others. For this ensemble I borrowed a baroque traverso, which someday I now have bought and own . Usually this kind of traverso"s are tuned lower (A in 392-420 Hz instead of 440 Hz). This instrument has two possible tunings, (440 and 415 Hz), the standard tuning makes it possible to play with other instruments, while the lower one has a better sound. This flute is handbuild and very easy and enjoyable to play.

Spanish Guitar

After several years of doubt ("I"m too old to learn a new instrument"), I started playing guitar. Finally I bought one, with which I have been happy all the time. I still play on this instrument. And I have even reached the limits of my "student"-model", so no regret anymore.

Steel String Guitar

Pop music is usually played on a steel string guitar. This guitar also can play higher notes, and sounds good when played with a pick. I own the Richwood 02BSB from a small Dutch company. I suspect it aims to be a Yamaha FGX-series-clone.

Electric Guitar

Playing electric guitar asks for a different technique than playing acoustically. For this reason I never really got into playing electric (I love playing acoustic too much :-). Anyway playing power chords on my Gibson-clone and borrowed Marshall MK2 Lead tube amplifierr can be nice.

Piano

My latest challenge is leaing to play the piano. Also this instrument is used for songwriting, since you have a good overview on the piano. The Irmbach I have is a russian made instrument of reasonable quality.

In future I will make samples available of my instruments, but at the moment I lack a good microphone :-(

Country leaver

Off to Paris for a few days, so be gentle with the server please.. (is this something like telling the burglar you'll be away for a week and you leave the house empty?).

Happy 2004 anyone!

In the sand

Perhaps I should mention our student house recipes page. Although it is in dutch, it contains various recipes from all over the world tested and approved by us. As a side note, I did a small update on the about me page.

Changes

I updated my server this weekend. Fedora wasn't very appealing to me, therefore I switched to Debian Woody. The internet connection of this machine was cut off by the university, because of my graduation. I now have 'excuse' account with an upstream of 128kbps, so expect things to be slower ;-(.

On the other hand, the hardware was updated, thanks to a gift (thanks, Sammy). So page rendering is faster now, but you will not notice... The irony..

Man on the corner

Finally updated my site a bit, to reflect my current situation. First, I graduated, with a nice mark. So now I am a master of science (the name implies more control over the universe than you have in reality ;-). Further I updated my CV. People who are interested in this, can download my latex sty file and my cv latex file, to come up with a PDF with the same layout as my curriculum vitae.

Also I plan on releasing some of my bash script files, currently I am working on ralbum a small utility to play random albums from my music collection.
